Prophet Ayyub (AS) was a man known for his piety and devotion to ALLAH (SWT). He had been blessed with wealth, children, and health, and was living a life of great prosperity. But one day, Allah (SWT) decided to test Ayyub's faith. ALLAH (SWT) took away all of Ayyub's (AS) wealth, causing him to become destitute. His children also passed away one after the other, leaving him alone and grieving. And to add to his misery, ALLAH (SWT) afflicted Ayyub (AS) with a severe illness that caused his body to be covered with sores.
Despite all these trials and tribulations, Ayyub (AS) remained patient and steadfast in his faith. He did not complain or turn away from ALLAH (SWT), but instead turned towards Him in prayer and sought His help and guidance.
The Quran mentions Ayyub's (AS) steadfastness in the face of adversity, in the following verse:
"And (remember) Ayyub, when he cried to his Lord: 'Verily, distress has seized me, and You are the Most Merciful of all those who show mercy.'" [Quran 21:83]
Ayyub (AS) remained patient and continued to pray to ALLAH (SWT) for relief from his afflictions. He knew that ALLAH (SWT) was the only One who could help him, and so he placed his trust in Him. ALLAH (SWT) mentions Ayyub's (AS) patience and steadfastness in another verse of the Quran:
"Truly We found him patient. How excellent a slave! Verily, he was ever oft-returning in repentance (to Us)!" [Quran 38:44]
Ayyub's (AS) patience and trust in ALLAH (SWT) paid off, and ALLAH (SWT) eventually answered his prayers. He healed Ayyub (AS) of his illness and restored his wealth and family to him.
The Quran mentions Ayyub's (AS) restoration in the following verse:
"So We responded to him and removed the distress that was on him, and We gave him back his family (that he had lost), and the like thereof along with them - as a mercy from Ourselves and a Reminder for all who worship Us." [Quran 21:84]
The story of Ayyub (AS) teaches us that no matter how great our hardships and trials may be, we must remain patient and steadfast in our faith. We must trust in ALLAH (SWT) and turn towards Him in prayer and supplication, knowing that He is the only One who can relieve us from our afflictions.
In the words of the Quran:
"And seek help in patience and As-Salat (the prayer) and truly it is extremely heavy and hard except for Al-Khashi'un [i.e. the true believers in ALLAH - those who obey ALLAH with full submission, fear much from His punishment, and believe in His Promise (Paradise, etc.) and in His Warnings (Hell, etc.)]." [Quran 2:45]
May ALLAH (SWT) grant us the patience and steadfastness of Prophet Ayyub (AS) in times of difficulty and adversity. Ameen.
