In the latest news from the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rohit Sharma, the skipper of Mumbai Indians (MI), has made history by becoming the first-ever Indian cricketer to hit 250 sixes in the IPL. The Indian batsman achieved this feat in a match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Rohit Sharma is also the third player overall to have hit 250 or more sixes in IPL history. Chris Gayle leads the list with 357 sixes, followed by AB De Villiers with 251 sixes. Sharma has now entered the elite list with his tally of 250 sixes.
During the match against PBKS, Sharma played a brilliant knock of 44 runs in 27 balls, which included three sixes and four boundaries. He was caught and bowled by Liam Livingstone while chasing the target of 215. With a strike rate of over 162, Sharma's contribution was valuable in the match.
In his IPL career spanning 233 matches, Sharma has scored 6,058 runs at an average of 30.29 and a strike rate of 130.22. He has one century and 41 half-centuries to his name, with the best score of 109 not out.
MI won the toss and opted to field first against PBKS, and the latter set a target of 214/8 in their 20 overs. Sam Curran top-scored for Punjab with 55 runs, followed by Harpreet Singh with 41 runs. Piyush Chawla was the pick of the bowlers for MI, with figures of 2/15 in three overs.
The match is still in progress, and MI is currently playing their innings. Along with Sharma, several other players are contributing to their team's chase.
