The Muslim world is set to celebrate Eid Al Fitr on Friday, April 21, 2023, after the sighting of the crescent moon of Shawwal by Kuwaiti moon-sighting committees. This marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, which is observed by Muslims worldwide through fasting and spiritual reflection.
The holiday will be celebrated in Kuwait’s public sector from April 21 to 25, with all ministries and governmental bodies enjoying the break. Work will resume on April 26, while agencies with a special nature will determine their Eid holiday by the competent bodies to take into consideration the public interest.
Eid Al Fitr is a joyous occasion celebrated by Muslims across the world by performing morning prayers in mosques. Prayers are typically followed by families gathering around the first morning breakfast table after a month of fasting. In Gulf countries, families traditionally exchange presents and eat delicious meals to celebrate the end of Ramadan.
Before Eid Al Fitr, Muslims are required to perform “Zakat Al Fitr,” a mandatory charity as part of the five pillars of Islam. The charity seeks to help people in need and is an essential part of the Eid Al Fitr celebrations.
The majority of Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Bahrain, among many others, are celebrating or set to celebrate Eid Al Fitr on Friday. However, other countries like Morocco are expected to announce Saturday, April 22, as Eid Al Fitr.
Eid Al Fitr is a time for Muslims to celebrate their faith, families, and communities. It is a time for forgiveness and reflection, as well as a time for generosity and kindness towards others. As the Muslim world comes together to celebrate Eid Al Fitr, let us all take a moment to reflect on the importance of unity, peace, and love for all humanity.
